Bike and Ride Hamburg: Now you can also park your bike safely and dryly at the main station
Parking your bike safely at the main station? Until now, that was rather difficult. But there is good news: On 17 March, Radkultur Hamburg opened the first of two new bike stations at the main station - with 120 covered parking spaces that you can rent at a good price.
Finally with a good feeling: parking your bike at the main station
Maybe you've experienced this too? You want to take a trip into the Hamburg countryside or have to get to work. You cycle to the main station to change to the train, leave your bike at the station - and spend the whole day worrying that it will be stolen. Secure parking spaces like those provided by ‘Bike and Ride’: no chance. Until now. In mid-March, we opened the first bike station with secure bike parking right next to Hamburg's main station at Steintorplatz. This means plenty of safe and dry parking spaces for your bike and a better feeling for you.
How many bike parking spaces are there at the main station?
There are a total of 120 parking spaces in the new locker facility at Steintorplatz. You can rent 40 of them for one or three days, the other 80 are primarily intended for commuters and can be booked for a month or longer. Another 200 spaces will be added at the beginning of June: A second location is already in the pipeline for the bike station at the main station. There will then be an additional 86 short-term and 114 long-term parking spaces at Glockengießerwall.
Are bike stations the same as Bike and Ride Hamburg?
Basically, yes. However, Bike und Ride in Hamburg has been given a new look - and the stations are no longer called ‘Bike + Ride’, but ‘Radstation’. Otherwise, everything remains the same.
How much does bicycle parking at the main station cost?
In just five years, i.e. 2030, 80% of all journeys in Hamburg are to be made without a car. This was decided by the Hamburg Senate at the end of 2023 as part of its mobility transition strategy. For this to work, we need attractive alternatives to our own cars. And attractive also means affordable. That's why you can use the bike stations for little money. If you want to park your bike for a day in one of our locker facilities at the main station, it costs just 1 euro. For commuters who need a permanent parking space for their bike, it is even cheaper at 8 euros per month. If you want to park your bike at the main station, you can easily reserve a space for it using the online booking tool.

The prices for the deposit boxes at Glockengießerwall are halved when combined with a bike hire space.
What about my cargo bike?
From the beginning of June, you can also park your cargo bike safely and dryly at the main station. The second bike station will then open on Glockengießerwall, where there will be several extra-large parking spaces for cargo bikes. You can also book deposit boxes and park and charge your e-bike here.
What's next for bicycle parking in Hamburg?
Over the next few years, we at Radkultur Hamburg want to offer more than 40,000 bike parking spaces in the city - wherever many bikers change to another means of transport, i.e. at ferry terminals, major long-distance railway stations and at many U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations.
