Parking your bike in Hamburg
You have to travel further, but you want to leave your bike standing somewhere? Whether it is outside your front door or at the station - in Hamburg there are many convenient places to park your bike. We will show you what they are and where to find them!
All our options in Hamburg: from the bicycle parking garage to the cycle rack.
To use your bike for your everyday journeys flexibly and conveniently, you don’t only need a cycle network (Radnetz) which is uninterrupted as far as possible, but also a good place to park your bike when you get to your destination, e.g. at work or at home. That is why you will find attractive bike parking offers in many places. Here is an overview of the public options we offer for parking your bike:
Parking your bike at U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations:
Bike stations (Radstationen - formerly called bike-and-ride facilities) are our parking option at U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations. You can park your bike there free of charge or for a small fee and lock it away in the dry. Our bike stations (Radstationen) allow you to change from your bike to public transport and back without any hassle
Parking your bike in your neighbourhood
Finding a good place to leave your bike in the public domain is becoming more important than ever, especially in residential areas. The district council offices (Bezirksämter), the roads authorities of the federal states (Landesbetrieb Straßen, Brücken und Gewässer (LSBG)) and other institutions charged with organizing public infrastructure set up thousands of new cycle racks every year and develop strategies for bike parking for the individual neighbourhoods. At the moment the pilot project “bike lockers” (Radboxen) has just got started, running a test of new facilities for secure bike parking right in front of your door at 20 locations.
Parking your bike outside and inside residential buildings
When new buildings are erected in Hamburg now, it is mandatory to plan in parking spaces for bikes. You can find recommendations here in our FAQ. In older residential areas, for instance those dating from Wilhelminian times, there are mostly not enough parking options - and for that reason it is very important for us to install cycle racks and, later, bike lockers (Radboxen) precisely there. We are working on this plan.
